Installations unveiled: New School of Architecture and Design students in the Master of Architecture program unveiled two "gateway" projects on April 5 at the entrances to the East Village Block Party, celebrating Opening Day for the San Diego Padres. One design was stacking cubes; the other was a grid of plywood draped like fabric, which met the ground at only two points. Go to www.newschoolarch.edu .
Fallbrook Garden Club Garden Tour: The club hosts its seventh annual tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Guests can visit six gardens that show water conservation techniques, drought-tolerant gardening, native landscaping, a tropical garden, a boutique vineyard and winemaking operation, and more. The tour will include a plant sale, raffle, garden gift shop and more. Tickets are available the day of the tour only for $20 ($35 for two) at the Fallbrook Historical Society, 260 Rockycrest Road. Feng Shui at festival: The Celebration Center for Spiritual Living will host its third Healing Arts and Psychic Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the center, 5820 Oberlin Dr., Suite 108, in Sorrento Valley. Inner Garden Mini Retreat: Alta Vista Gardens in Brengle Terrace Park in Vista will host an Inner Garden Mini Retreat for women to cultivate and nourish creative instincts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4. Grangetto's seminar and trade show: Grangetto's will hold its eighth annual Horticulture Seminar & Trade Show on June 9 at the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park. The event is open to horticultural professionals and will include education, breakfast, lunch and beverages. Speakers will discuss pest management and practices, and there will be vendor displays. A new club is in the process of forming in the Lower Fraser Valley for those interested in African violets – the new mini and semi versions developed in recent years suitable for smaller living spaces. Speakers and more information will be available

Petal Tones: Saintpaulia 'Teeny Bopper' and Saintpaulia shumensis
Both sets of leaves rooted quickly and produced leaves in two months, although I wasn't sure I had leaves on 'Teeny Bopper'; I thought the green was algae until I looked through a magnifying glass.
